# STATE OF THE WORLD — MONITORING DASHBOARD

**Consolidated watchlist · 1 June 2026**

*Everything the white paper (*State of the World*, June 2026) and the* Connecting the Dots *methodology (May 2026) flag as needing ongoing monitoring, pulled into one place.*

---

### How to read this dashboard

This is a **research-monitoring tool, not a trade-signal generator** — the methodology is explicit that it produces structured observation, not forecasts, and has *underperformed* a passive global tracker when used for active trading over twenty months. Its value is in knowing *when conventional analysis is likely to be failing*, not in market timing.

Two anchors before the tables:

- **The single most dangerous scheduled date on the horizon is the rare-earth truce expiry, October/November 2026.** Both documents return to it repeatedly. It is the one diarised event most likely to trigger a structural escalation.
- **Current cluster status (May 2026): between Normal and Elevated** — 3 of the 20 signals clearly active, 3 more in early-warning. Prescribed response: *daily monitoring with documented observations*.

## Table 1 — The Twenty-Signal Cluster Monitor (the live system)

> Rule of the system: **one signal flashing is normal; three or four flashing at once is the model starting to crack.** Genuine structural change shows up as multiple normal relationships breaking simultaneously.

| # | Signal (the deviation that = activation) | Normal pattern | Activation threshold | Status (May–Jun 2026) | Source / cadence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Currency & dollar** | | | | | |
| 1 | Dollar **falling** while Treasury yields **rise** | Money into Treasuries lifts the dollar | Both move opposite — capital leaving the US | **Early-warning** — episodic in Jan 2026 (Greenland); dollar still softening Jun 2026 | FX + UST yields, daily |
| 2 | Dollar reserve share drops **below 55%** | ~57% now, down from 71% a decade ago | Below 55% = loss of dominant reserve status | **Early-warning** — ~57%, approaching | IMF COFER, quarterly |
| 3 | Major economies buy oil in **non-dollar** currencies | Oil priced in USD | Each new instance erodes the petrodollar | **Watch** — UAE OPEC exit makes it more likely | Official / news, ongoing |

## Table 2 — Scheduled Events & Key Dates to Watch (forward calendar)

| Date / window | Event | Why it matters | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Oct / Nov 2026** | **China rare-earth truce expires** | The Busan one-year pause runs out; China's "ace of spades" | Renewal, escalation, or being overtaken by events — *the* tripwire |
| Nov 2026 | US midterm elections | Trump's political timeline drives his need for a declarable Iran "victory" | Whether the political clock forces escalation or a deal |
| Before Nov 2026 | Trump–Xi Beijing summit (originally April, slipped) | Rare earths, chips, Taiwan, Iran, Ukraine all on the table | Whether an in-person meeting happens before the truce expiry; the window is narrowing |
| Dec 2026 | Xi to visit US for the G20 | Second Trump–Xi contact point of 2026 | Whether it survives the year's strain on economic confidence |
| 2026 | Ganges Treaty (India–Bangladesh) renewal due | Water as a flashpoint; Indus Treaty already "in abeyance" | Whether water diplomacy holds or fractures further |
| Dec 2026 | Third UN Water Conference (only the third in 50 yrs) | Tests whether governance can match the scale of water risk | The gap between risk and governance response |
| Ongoing | Hormuz durable reopening | Ceasefire is nominal; Strait still contested, ~4–5 mbd demand destruction | **Ships actually moving** — the real signal, not Trump announcements |
| Ongoing | CFTC oil-futures insider-trading probe | Three suspiciously timed trades around Trump posts | Findings; treat Trump oil announcements as potential market-management tools until then |
| Ongoing | US–Israel public opinion | Pew, Mellman, J Street polls show historic collapse, incl. within US Jewish community | Whether the bipartisan political coalition under Israel keeps fracturing |

## Table 3 — Open Questions (explicitly unresolved)

| Question | What would resolve it / signal to watch | Current read (Jun 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Does the dollar's weakness become a **rout or a managed drift**? | Sustained recurrence of signals 1–2; reserve share toward 55% | Softened steadily, not collapsed — *the* key medium-term uncertainty |
| Is capital flight **structural or episodic**? | Persistent dollar-down/yields-up; TIC outflows | Genuinely contested — flow data shows foreigners still net buyers; both readings have evidence |
| Is the **rare-earth truce** renewed, escalated, or overtaken? | Beijing's posture as Oct/Nov approaches | Unresolved — highest-stakes open item |
| Does **Trump visit Beijing** before November? | Confirmed summit date | April visit didn't happen; window narrowing |
| Does **gold reclaim $5,000**? | A clean break back above $5,000 | Sat ~$4,779 post-ceasefire; bank year-end targets still $6,000–$6,300 |
| Do the **Islamabad talks** produce a durable deal? | Lebanon ceasefire + asset release + Hormuz recognition | Unlikely within the original window; effectively frozen |

---

## Table 4 — Confirmed Structural Trends (keep tracking for acceleration or reversal)

> Methodological caution baked in: *being directionally correct about slow tectonic processes is not the same as predicting their timing.* These are confirmed in direction, not in pace. Watch for both acceleration **and** reversal.

| Trend | Status | What to watch for next |
|---|---|---|
| Diverging Iran end-games (Netanyahu vs Trump) | **Strengthened** — Lebanon strikes on ceasefire Day 1, cancelled Vance trip, IRGC seizures | Whether Lebanon ops collapse the diplomatic fiction entirely |
| Information-war erosion of US moral authority | **Strengthened** — Minab narrative, insider-trading story, opinion collapse | Soft-power decay measured over years, not quarters |
| UK–US rupture | **Strengthened beyond forecast** — Mandelson, Starmer apology, Robbins firing, public Trump attacks | Whether the monarchy-as-counterweight holds the relationship together |
| Iran underestimation / strategic inversion | **Confirmed** — Iran emerged with *more* Hormuz leverage than before the war | Level of Strait disruption; whether "control" becomes permanent |
| Energy premium endures | **Confirmed** — Brent ~$104 six weeks post-ceasefire | Whether it holds structurally vs reverts |
| Chip war as the central economic fault line | **Confirmed** — AGI-infrastructure capital scaling, pivoting to **power generation** | Hyperscaler capex (~$650bn 2026); electricity, not silicon, as the binding constraint |
| The dollar/debt doom loop | **Confirmed in operation** — March US inflation a near-4-yr high as debt grows, foreign demand falls | Interest burden vs defence budget; Fed's room to cut |

---

## Table 5 — Time-Horizon Risk Watch (Part VII)

| Horizon | Item | Trigger / what to monitor |
|---|---|---|
| **Weeks** | Strait of Hormuz | Mine-clearing friction; any single miscalculation reopening hostilities |
| **Weeks** | Lebanon | "Operation Eternal Darkness"; the most live flashpoint |
| **Weeks** | Islamabad talks | Whether the pause becomes a durable framework |
| **Months** | Rare-earth truce expiry | Oct/Nov 2026 — renewal or escalation |
| **Months** | Trump Beijing visit | Whether it happens; what it covers |
| **Months** | Ukraine | Talks frozen; Russia advancing ~17 sq mi/period; Coalition of the Willing unratified |
| **Months** | Iran regime stability | Air campaigns rarely produce regime change; a failed-state Iran may be more dangerous |
| **Years** | Taiwan | Blockade-exercise frequency; "fight against" language; 7% defence rise; demographic clock |
| **Years** | The Ummah factor | Long-term erosion of US soft power across 1.8bn Muslims |
| **Years** | European strategic autonomy | French nuclear deterrence; German rearmament; transatlantic recalibration |
| **Years** | The monetary system | Reserve-share erosion; BRICS Unit; record central-bank gold; the doom loop |

---

## Table 6 — Decision Rules: The Four Structural-Significance Tests

> Apply to **every new event** before weighting it. Passes all four → high priority. Passes none → probably noise. One or two → keep observing.

| Test | Question to ask | Structural if… | Noise if… |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Reversibility** | Could an election, deal, or market correction undo it? | Irreversible at relevant timescales (e.g. UAE OPEC exit) | Easily reversed (e.g. tariffs, Chagos pause) |
| **Multi-domain** | Does it show up across several domains at once? | Oil spike **+** insurance repricing **+** currency moves **+** flow rerouting | Oil spike alone |
| **Institutional** | Does it require institutional change, or just behaviour? | New/dissolved institutions, changed rules (BRICS Unit) | Behaviour within existing institutions (a bilateral deal) |
| **Reaction** | How are skin-in-the-game actors responding? | Central banks buying gold 14 straight quarters | Headline reaction without sophisticated-actor follow-through |

---

## Table 7 — Action Tiers (cluster level → response)

| Signals active | Status | Recommended response |
|---|---|---|
| 0–2 | **Normal** | Standard weekly monitoring; continue baseline analysis |
| 3–4 | **Elevated** | Daily monitoring; document observations; review whether existing frameworks still fit |
| 5–7 | **High Alert** | Daily monitoring; begin documenting scenarios; treat the cluster behaviour itself as output |
| 8+ | **Crisis Pattern** | Daily monitoring; treat conventional frameworks with explicit scepticism |

*Current placement (May 2026): between Normal and Elevated.*

## Table 8 — Bias-Discipline Checklist (run when updating this dashboard)

> The methodology's most important section: a framework that detects connections without checking the analyst's own pattern-matching is *worse than no framework*. **When new events appear to confirm the thesis, be more cautious, not more confident.**

| Bias | How it shows up | Operational counter |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmation | Every headline starts to "fit" | Document predictions in advance with success criteria; keep an explicit falsification list and review it — a thesis that can't be falsified is belief, not analysis |
| Recency | The newest event feels the most important | Test each new event against historical analogues before weighting (e.g. oil insider-trading echoes 2022 and 2003) |
| Narrative-coherence overfitting | The clean story beats the messy-but-truer one | Force-test any clean narrative against the messy alternative (multiple motives, contingency, coincidence) |
| Pattern-matching seduction | Connections start to feel *everywhere* | Ask repeatedly: *is this pattern there, or am I looking for it?* Hold the five-Acts frame as a hypothesis, not a settled fact |
